Default coil over plug question

to start i have a 93 cbr f2. i decided to make a coil over plug or c.o.p conversion. well i whent to my local junkyard and got coil packs from a 2005 ford focus. they fit on my cbr. i tried to start it and she did and run fine for a little in idle. but then it shut off i was woundering if this going to mess my bike up cause after all that i change the setup back to the 2 coils like normal and she started right up. im woundering if im using too much fuel or is just not going to work? pics soon on how it looks.

well i got the idea from a post i was reading one guy sed that in the old 600f`s they used ford zx2 coils. so i was thinking they are almost the same shape and they work with 12 volts like the regular cbr coils. it was running in idle. the problem today was that when i give it trottlr it shuts off idk y?.but when it comes to trottle response is sweet. i cant sem to keep it running for long. thats were im at now. so whatever im missing im close idk how close but close.

I don't think you can just slap in a coil on plug system, theres gotta be more to it then that. I could be wrong though.

do you have any specs on the ford coils? Have you checked the primary and secondary coil resistance figures to see if they compare to the factory coils resistances?

I'm concerned you might risk hurting your ICM by interfacing these other electronics. how did you connect the ford coils to the ICM?

you are right u shouldnt b able to. but the only thing thats keeps me going is that it starts and runs with them in. plus we use a wasted spark on the f2 idk about the new rr`s but the question is if! if! we use a wasted spark how hard is it to make 2 coils spark 2gether really not hard everyting is there you got your red wire and white wire. but the real reson that i want to do this is. one of my coils is failing bad i dont want to look on ebay for used coils cause you know that at the end they will fail 2. so if i can make this work without a problem i can just get to my localo junk yard and getones for cheep.

ok so f me!. i was a little off.
--- Quote from: mlinder on October 25, 2008, 05:17:56 pm ---f2 coil specs:

Ignition coil resistance -Primary- 2.5-3.1 ohms

-Secondary with plug cap- 21-25 k/ohm

-Secondary Wthout plug wire-11-15 k/ohm

Maybe? I dunno.

the 500 already has a stressed charging system as is...most of the 500/550 experts (twotired, hondaman) here will recommend staying w/ 5 ohm coils on the 550 so you don't tax your charging system anymore.
and ford coils is.
Primary: 0.9-0.8 Ohms
Secondary: 8000 Ohms
lol ok so thats out the window i checked. the first time i got answer they sed 5 to 7 and 8. holly **** they sed 8000 nice wrong
