chains?

Default chains?

I was looking at aftermarket sprockets and chains today. I saw 3 different chain kits. a 520, a 525, and a 530. What is the difference? Which is better for stunting and why?

I have been looking in to this as well and this is what I have found. To avoid quoting too much I have quoted just your question and then some more information about sprockets and 'stuff'

SO....A 520 is a lighter chain than a 525, which is why race bikes have 520 chain conversions!! The 520 is more common than a 525 since people tend to go for the lighter is better syndrome, but lighter will usually wear out quicker unless you spend super dooper bucks for a HIGH TENSILE STRENGTH chain (some of these chains are $200!!)

However here is a guy selling a 520 conversion kit, with sprockets. Near the bottom of the page there is some good information on chains/sprockets. And this guy says because of the quality of the chains they will last as long and its only $125 or something thing like that.

You are close....more specifically each number means something.....

525 for example....
"5" is 5/8 inch pin to pin spacing
the "25" is the roller width....and means .25 inches or 1/4"

the wider rollers will wear better under heavy loads...like stunting (lots of clutch pops and so on)....so I'd tell you a 525 or 530 will best meet your needs.

Racing, yeah, we put 520's on, and the HP gains are significant...but we also lube our chains daily, and replace them every year or two (which is maybe 3000 miles)...but we also run it harder than you every could on the street. If you just cruise around and occasionally goof off, a 520 is fine. the biggest thing in maintenance. SOme peopel thnk since an oring chain is sealed they don;t have to lube it. That sealing only between the pin and bushing. The roller still needs lubrication (thats the chrome roller you see between the links) every few hundred miles....I usually lube every three tanks of gas.

I have personally had the best luck with DID chains. RK and Regina have also done well for me (I can't afford Regina, but inherited one on a bike I raced). Tsubaki have not been good for me...I've had two and the links went tight on me both times. I haven't tried the EK line, but have used the generic Parts Unlimited chains with success too.

I need a chain too and found the EK chains to be about 33% less than a similiarly rated RK chain. Anybody tried the EK chains, specifically the 525SROZ ?

speaking from experience if you want to ride a stunt bike stick with the 530. I beat my bike like it stole something from me and i kept the 530 and have had no problems. the thing i would also recomend is shorty ( 1 finger) hand levers so when you go down you don't break them.
