Chain Break?
Hey I have a 94 cbr f2. My chain was pretty bad and was getting ready to replace it and it snapped when i was riding it. Then i went out and bought a new one from honda and then after about 200 miles the master link snapped and again i was with out a chain. I know i had everything on right and to the right tension but i cant figure out how i would snap a chain. For now i just got another link but im proble just going to buy a better aftermarket chain. If anyone has any ideas let me know Thanks
90% of people that think they have the right tension on a chain have it entirely WAY too tight (this is why most people only get about 8000 miles out of their chain). these are the same group of people that believe their chain needs adjusted/tightened when its just in the right spot. a good rule of thumb is that if you can move the chain under the swingarm until its about an inch from the underside of the swingarm you are in the right spot. your average rider will think its too lose at that point. my advice... go to a racetrack and let the tech inspector tell you that your chain is too tight over and over until you finally realize that he knows what he's doing and has probably been doing it longer than you.
as far as a master link goes, the rivet style WILL NOT come off if installed properly. when it's time to replace it you will have to cut it off to remove it. the clip style is easy to put on incorrectly. it is no weaker than the rivet style if installed properly and will hold up for just as long. who put on your chain? you or a shop? if you did it yourself? if so, how did you do it? did you used channel-locks or vicegrips...... thats why it came off. you need a chain press to do it right. the amount of pressure it takes to seat the link properly is usually only accomplished by a press or superman. if a shop did it. go bitch at the shop for improperly installing your chain (if you have the parts of the chain to prove this)

i use a vice or press because if i tried using my hands many times and each time, i would crush the rivets with mah bare hands! so now i use the chain press tool, less chance of crushing parts.
