cam chain tensioner - F2/FZR
Ok, so I understand that the F2 has a crappily designed cam chain tensioner.
I have a tensioner off an FZR which allows for adjustment as it is under spring pressure and "clicks" as it extends so it cannot go back in once it has clicked out each notch. So you get the best of both worlds...adjusts with chain stretching, yet doesn't allow for slack (similar to manual chain tensioner).
So I'm wondering if anyone on this board has ever fit an FZR cam chain tensioner onto an F2?
I am about to compare both of them and see if there is any possibility of it.

Ok, so I just got done in the garage.I pulled off the F2 tensioner and compared the two. I put the gasket for the FZR up to the F2 tensioner and the F2 gasket up to the FZR tensioner. The part on each that protrudes into the engine were both small enough for each others gaskets and the bolt holes were ALMOST identical.
I ended up reaming out the holes on the FZR tensioner ever so slightly with a step-up drill bit. Using the F2 gasket as a bolt hole guide, I took a little bit more and a little bit more until it looked like the bolts would mount in the engine with no interference.
So I used the old F2 gasket, bolted in the FZR tensioner, and screwed the spring back into the FZR tensioner. Turned the key and pressed the starter button and I'll be damned if my clanky, noisy engine turned into the quiet purring Honda that it should be.
One thing to note is that the FZR tensioner had a flat button on the end and the F2 tensioner had a rounded end on it, so I decided to get the grinder out and round the top of the button a little bit. I just hope that doesn't start to chew into whatever it pushes on inside the engine. As for now, I am smiling that I don't have to shell out $60 for an APE tensioner. (hopefully saving a few bucks doesn't cost me a bunch later...)
At the very least I am 100% sure of what was causing my noisy clankynstarts and "tickety" idling.

Might be kinda late...but would you have any pics of the above modification? I'm gonna need a cct here pretty soon.
Thanks,
RB

I had the same problem and I fixed it with a manual cam chain adjuster. There cheap like 50 bucks and easy to install. When the chain loosens you can just tighten it with a wrench. Try that out. I got mine from streetandcomp.com Good luck to you.
