Default buying a used CBR 600

Hello all! A co-worker has a 93 CBR 600 he wants to sell for $500. I looked at it today and it looks pretty rough. All the front plastic is broken, but it has 15,000 miles.

i already own a CBR 1000F and its a really nice bike, but I dont want to buy this bike if its a 600F. I was wondering did they make the F models in 93. Also, is the plastics hard to come by?

All 600's 91-94 were F2's.

Thanks. Im reluctant to buy it. i like stock paint jobs and plastics, but it looks like it would cost me a fortune to buy plastics for it. i guess I could make it into a street fighter, but thats not normally my thing. im gonna have to do some thinking on this one.

Anything I should know about them? Im sure the power is pretty decent.

They are pretty light bikes compared to others. I had a 92 GSXR 600 that seemed like it weighed 100 pounds more than my 93 CBR.

Plastics are not too bad price wise. I have been pretty lucky with cragislist and this forum. There are also threads on here discussing the complete fairing sets on eBay that are painted and ready to go.

I just got my new-to-me 92 back on the road last week, it was a bit of a fixer-upper too. Power is good - def more than I need w/ less than a year of riding experience under me. Course, I learned to ride on a borrowed liter bike, so I do miss some of the low-end grunt.

Plastics can be found cheaply if you're willing to look - or you can buy one of the full fairing sets from ebay - the HonkKong supliers have pretty decent reps. I bought a windscreen from these folks, and I read some good stuff about the ABS kits they sell.

That's a stock-looking pattern, although they have several other patterns for a F2 in the sub $600 shipped range, fully painted ready to install.

Thanks guys!! That makes me feel a little better about this deal. I will try to talk him down a hair first.

Im sure the F2 will feel like a feather compared to my 93 1000F. That thing is heavy! Fun, but heavy!

I don't know what used CBR600F2's go for in your area with all fine plastics, but here they run $2k.

Buy the bike for $500, buy the $500 ebay plastic specials, and viola, you're done. $1000 profit.

Here's how i would price used F2's (knowing what i know now:

Start at $2000
Subtract $750 if second gear pops out
Subtract $500 for ****ed up plastics
Subtract $300 for tires with less than 50%
Subtract $250 for worn chain/sprockets
Subtract $150 for aftermarket exhaust or K+N that hasn't been rejetted (ride to feel)
Subtract $150 for old forks (pretty much automatic, they will need to be rebuilt)
Subtract $150 for stock R/R
Subtract $100 for stock CCT
Subtract $100 for stiff steering bearings

Yes, it's possible to wind up in negative numbers. That means don't but the beast it may not be worth it.

ALso, check the oil and see what color it is. That'll give you some good info on how well maintained it's been. Also prepare to flush the coolant, and swap out the spark plugs. Thankfully plugs for these bikes are cheap!

Cant wait to see your pics. I have seen some other street fighters surfing around here and they looked pretty sharp!
