Default Bad R/R?

So yeah I just picked up a CBR F2 1993 on Friday night, I test rode it and almost instantly fell in love with it. Paid 1500$ for it, great bike.

Although I rode it to work today and it pretty much died on me about 1/4 mile away from where I work! So I figured the battery was dead, push starting it didn't work. I had someone bring a battery charger and I charged it up, and rode it home, almost making it home, ironically I ended up right next to the area where I bought the bike from, I pushed it to their home and asked if I could borrow their charger for a little bit and they did.

I'm guessing it's the regulator/rectifier unit on my bike, I noticed when checking out the bike that the original rectifier doesn't have a cover? and it's taped over with black electrical tape haha. I was told by the previous owner that the battery should be replaced, but i'm guessing if it's not receiving a charge from the generator or most likely the Regulator / rectifer with tape over it?

it may be the stator it happened to me like that. it just didnt charge but if i jumped it i could ride until the fan turned on and drained the battery.

Get a multi-meter and check your stator output before replacing... there is a walkthrough on how to diagnose stator/rr problems on the forum somewhere.

Which cable is the stator output? Does the engine need to be running to check? do I need to lift the tank to get to it? Looks like it's in front of the battery box.

yes, engine needs to be running. I think you need to lift the tank to unplug the stator wire from the harness.... check your manual.

Picture of the regulator/rectifier, no idea how the previous owner could have lost the cover on it, just covered in tape when I got it D: I figure I should replace it anyways, gota new one coming on Wends.

Plugs in front of the battery box, no idea which one is from the stator, anyone chime in? The picture in the online workbook isn't very clear.

Very good, seems like you're on top of it. Actually when you look at any stock R/R, you won't see a "top cover," instead it's all one single piece. Probably laser welded at manufacture so it can't be taken apart. Anyway, yours was probably smashed at some point and that plastic piece was lost. If you look closely at your picture you can discern some of the jagged edges that were formed when it was broken. Bet you can't find any screw holes!

Anyone know which of those plugs in the 2nd picture comes from the stator? I can't tell from the diagram on the downloaded manual.

Not sure about the plugs, but every factory regulator/rectifier I saw on an F2 or F3 looked like this. I think you have an aftermarket one. Unless someone dug out the goo from yours.

This one is from a '92 F2.
