its personal choice. I myself, prefer to lay the decals down and then clear coat over the top. Only thing is you have to make sure you really like the decals cause they will be on for a while.

Apparently decals designed to go under clear coat are very very thin. If they are thick, you must use a ton of clear to seal the edges. I had mine lift on the edges requireing a re-clear.

Default I have a problem priming upper?

Sorry to jack the thread. Just a quick question?
I have one piece to go and ready to ride, the left upper where cave in above the turn signal is won't prime. I mean the part where the air flows into a hole. I prime it and it just cracks the prime and leaves me with a bad coat. Any suggestions?

First off, I am not a paint expert but I have painted bikes before. Sounds like something has penetrated the surface and it needs to be cleaned well before priming.

Try sanding down again and cleaning with good solvent.

if its abs plastic you need to put adhesion promoter on it or it wont stick worth *****. dupont makes a spray can application for it. thats what i use at work and we love it

You can put stickers down and clear over them but remember you might fall into a adhesion problem. Paint needs to be approximately 600 grit to have clear stick. Think about the shiny sticker your putting on.

Just a suggestion. Thats why I am putting mine over the clear.

well the best way to do it would be take the tank, clear it. let the clear dry, take a gray scotch brite and scratch the whole tank down again, then place your sticker, then scratch the sticker with a yellow scotch brite (gray might be ok if your gentile) then put adhesion promoter over the whole tank and pound another three coats of clear on there. let it set up for the cure time, then denib, wetsand, buff to perfection. make sure you dont use a no bake clear unless you have a paint booth with a bake cycle, if you do it will take like a week until the clear is hard enough to buff. once the paint is fresh and buffed do not wax it or anything for a good 30 days-usually longer. then you will have a great paint job that will last you till you hit the dirt

oh and ps, when you scotch brite it make sure ALL the shiny is gone!!!! if you dont guess what, your paints gonna flake off. also instead of a gray and yellow scotch brite you could use a wet scuff compund for your paint prep.....and make sure you clean and tack everything off or your paint job will look like *****!!!
