The adjustment that you are getting ready to do doesnt have anything to do with brake pressure. It adjusts the position of your brake pedal only. It sounds more like either the master cylinder isn't releasing all the pressure from the caliper orthe piston is sticking in the caliper and not goinig back in. I would check to make sure the piston in the caliper goes back in without excessive force. If it doesnt open the bleeder and check it again, if it goes in easy with the bleeder open then you will need to rebuild the master cylinder. If not, take the caliper off and rebuild it.
