91' CBR F2 Problems
Hey guys I'm new to the forums. My name is Mike and I'm pleased to meet everyone and I will thank everyone ahead of time because I'm positive the community will help me a lot along the course of me owning this bike. I've been riding since I was 6 and now I'm 18 so I'm pretty experienced.
Now to the good stuff. I bought a 1991 F2 for 800 bucks. The plastics are in good shape with cracks here and there. It has 2014 tags and a new plate not put on the bike yet. It has 52,000 miles but only 10,000 on the rebuilt engine. However the bike has a charging problem. I did my research and got some useful info but I want more input. The battery seems good I charged it and can literally turn the motor over for minutes if I wanted to. The bike runs really well until the battery dies. Also when the bike runs I noticed the rectifier makes a ticking noise and gets hot within minutes of running the bike. So I pulled the plug and it was completely toasted. Where do I start from here repair wise? All help is greatly appreciated.

Photobucket is the easiest way. Just copy the "IMG code" to your post.

Faulty R/R is a common issue, though my bike has 25,000 miles and it's still good, I've got a spare on hand for when it finally croaks.
Just get you a new one - allegedly, the new Honda part number, which replaces the old ones, is for a much-improved part, that dissipates heat better, but most folks just buy an aftermarket unit with lots of cooling fins. There are quite a few options out there and some guys install an R/R from certain vintages of GSX-R 1000's or 750's, and soder in the proper connector.

Ah, now I see your pictures! Nice lookin' F2, by the way!
Anyway, with that connector being fried, I would still suspect your R/R is bad, but that doesn't look the same as the original unit - I'm not sure if that is the newer Honda replacement, or aftermarket, or what, but either way, it's probably shot... that sucks.

Good luck with it!
Horrible decision bro.
I'll tell you what though, i'll take it off of your hands for the same price.
=P
