Talking 2005 CBR1000RR Repsol Conversion

The CBR 600 F2 is a 20+ year old bike...yet people charge ludicrous prices for USED fairings... I soon realized that 600RR and 1000RR parts are cheaper than the F2.
So... I was searching on eBay and I came across a complete 1000RR fairing kit with basically everything. Front fairing, left/right lower and upper fairings. Tail, tail light, turn signals. All for $200! It was a deal too good to pass. I couldn't even buy one fairing for $200 for the F2...

The best part about this fairing kit was that it was the 1000RR Repsol edition. I absolutely love Team Honda Repsol in the MotoGP!

Now many of you including myself would laugh at the idea. It's an outdated 600 impersonating a 1000. How pitiful and hideous LOL. But I don't mind...for the price and how beautiful it looks, I can't help it!

Now, originally I was planning on doing a 600RR swap for the longest time. But through doing some homework/research, I found the 600RR a tad bit smaller than the F2. The 600RR was a bit thinner and less beefier. The F2 is a big girl...has a bit more "thickness" than the sleek 600RR's. It only made sense to me to do a 1000RR conversion. Over the past several months, I've seen successful 600RR swaps here on CBRforums and other sites. However, the swaps look like a big woman trying to fit into a small dress I've never seen anyone do a 1000RR conversion on the F2 so I said why the heck not?

Items:

Used 1000RR Repsol kit: All fairings + miscellaneous pieces, tail light

Headlight $50( used craigslist)

1000RR fairing stay $40

Rear pillion dummy seat ($33 new)

seat (used $25)

HID 4300k lights (free)

Total cost estimate: $348

Now the reason why I got so many parts for so cheap was simply due to my patience. I waited on eBay and won auctions over the course of several months. I'm a full time college student on a budget! Paychecks from Google via YouTube did help pay for about 60% of all this hehe

I will be posting more photos of the build as I progress. But as of now, this is all I have. Hopefully, my seats will come by the end of this week. I will be fabricating custom mounts for the tail piece and side fairings. I will be keeping my stock instrument cluster as I found out today that it fits in well. No need to upgrade. I will be using the existing wiring harness for the two headlights. I've plugged both my HID ballasts in and the stock F2 connector and it powers enough juice for both HID bulbs.

I will keep you guys updated on the build. So far, I've made no major cuts or welds on the frame. My goal here is to keep the F2 frame as original as possible so that it could easily be converted back.

I would say, yeah, go for it! But there's no need... you already did!

It will be an interesting project for you, good luck with it.

For what it's worth, the reason the F2 plastics seem pretty high, is probably because those items are OEM, which is far superior to the aftermarket ABS stuff, and of course, the F2 fairings are now less plentiful for sure - the 600RR and 1000RR stuff (definitely the kit you got) is not OEM, but aftermarket, mostly cheap stuff from China...but I'm not knocking it, I've got a Hong Kong fairing set on my F2! It WILL work, without a doubt, but be gentle with that stuff, the plastic is WAAAAAY flimsier than OEM, and the finish will usually mark up easily.

Even with the fact that the F2 OEM plastics are getting a little, harder to come by, I DO get your frustration with the prices of the bits... without a doubt, there are a lot of dong bags out there who set the prices far too high, and not even for primo stuff, usually every piece you see has damage, and they still expect to get big money! Like morons on Craigslist selling used F2s with damage or items needing immediate attention, for $2500 to over $3000, when a PRISTINE stock example books for about $2300 or so! Some of thes idiots want even more, cuz they got LEDs on 'em... really, LEDs!! Holy crap, that's amazing!! PLEASE let me give you $3000 for a bike that's probably worth $900!!!

OK, I guess I needed to rant a little... my bad.

Are you sure you paid $200? That looks like one of those kits that usually cost $500 free shipping or $200ish plus $200ish shipping. Either way, looks good.lol. pmb5 did a 08 body conversion on F2 or F3 track bike. And, any one remember "koko", he had a amazing looking F2 track bike with 08 cbr 1000 fairings.

I know what you are talking about. On eBay there are countless ads for these seemingly cheap kits for $200 with a hidden $300 shipping. No way in the world I'd spend that much for what it is...cheap chinese plastic! I got a deal on these because they were used and had a small rash on the left.

It is looking good, but as you might already know, the hardest part to make look right, is the areas around the fuel tank, and how you integrate with the F2 subframe... give us some nice side profile shots without a rider on the bike, so we can see how you worked that out!

Yes, I will get close up shots of the bike. I forgot to mention that I did not make the side panels to cover the rear subframe where the seat meets the frame. I'm still debating on whether or not to paint the tank orange. Also the R/R and some of the wiring are still exposed, but once I find some materials to make the panels, it should be all good. I guess I shouldn't have jumped and said, "it's done!" lol. It's almost...

No worries... as we ALL know, "it", whatever "it" is, when it comes to what we do to our bikes, is never REALLY done!!
