What's wrong w/ this picture?
So the bike decided to play a little joke on me today
I'm cruising home on the highway, basically behaving myself, flow of traffic and all. Coming up to my exit I'm in the right lane... I uncurl my right hand and reach forward with my fingers and feel...
...air.
The bolt holding on the brake lever must have backed itself completely out (it's always sat a little high, I've tightened it several times)
So I limped home (only a couple of miles at that point) on the rear brake. Wish she'd thought to tell me I needed a brake lever a week ago when I ordered a CCT Adjuster!

I don't even know yet. I'm still pretty much too pissed off. I was out running errands and doing a shakedown on the oil/filter/CCT work I did the other day, specifically so I could ride it tomorrow. There go those plans.
I did just take a closer look, and I think that photo misrepresents the angles a little... the two sides of the bracket are parallel. The gaskets inside are showing some wear, but any crud looks to be old leaks, not new.
So for a bike that I really intend to mothball this winter and start slowly restoring it (and picking up a newer daily driver for the next couple of years) ... I really don't feel like diving into replacing the whole BMC for just the next couple of months.
I'm just trying to figure out what lever I need to replace it with
(which would be so much easier if it weren't sitting somewhere on a 15 mile stretch of 95 out here south of Boston!)
Edit: I'm thinking probably This?

I just got a new set of levers off ebay. Cheap and plug and play.
If your BMC needs replaced though... thats a different story. I should start charging a commision for this, BUT... trippmann is parting out an 89. I believe the handlebars were broken, but the bmc might still be in good shape...

its a disc lock. basically prevents joyriding/rolling the bike away. A minor deterant for thieves. And the cable is so I don't forget to take it off before I ride off!
