I am new!
I have a question, there is a 88 cbr hurricane on CL in my area and he is asking $1000.00 OBO. the ad says that the tank has pinholes, and it looks to be in pretty rough shape. My question is since I would need a new tank and probably some things to make it safe and reliable is it worth $1000.00? I was planning doing a fairing swap from a 03 or newer bike. anyones $.02 would help thanks!

The guy has it registered and he said it does run in the ad, he says he does not ride it because it has a leak from the fuel tank due to the pinholes. I am a mechanic and can figure it out plus I will be buying it for a project over the winter and I was thinking offering him $500 for possible future hassle.

$1000 sounds like too much for a bike which can't be ridden home due to possible fires. I picked up a parts bike for $300 for a fuel tank... the wrecker wanted $250 for the tank and I've used many other pieces as well so the $300 was a good investment. $500 sounds like a reasonable offer.

I'm new here too, so hey everyone!
I agree with Thrasher, $500's not bad, but I'd go take a look at it first to see if you can figure out what "rough shape" really means. If it's just plastics, that's not too bad. If there's more going on there (and you'll probby know best since you're a mechanic) then I'd either pass on it or buy it as a parts bike for no more than $300.

that sounds like a good deal .
Just checked it out and it is in rough shape tank is rusted at the bottom and leaking pretty bad he laid it down on the right side and all the plastics need to be replaced
rear trun signal lenses are just hanging there. I told him $300 and he did not sound happy he said the lowest he can go is $700.00 considering it needs plastics and a new tank I was thinking $500.00... I guess my quest for a bike is still on.
