Default Tail Light not functioning

Hello,

I have a 1989 Honda Hurricane 600. The tail lights(all lights for that matter) were working fine up until recently. Everything works except the tail light. It just suddenly stopped working apparently.

I've checked the bulbs and they are not burnt out. The tail light will light up in the first key ignition click after locking the forks.

I was thinking it might be the key ignition switch itself, but am not certain at all actually.

Any help would be beneficial.

Thanks,
Jonathan

Are you talking about the brake light? It won't light up when you step on the brake? If so check the rear brake light switch attached to your brake linkage

Did you check the fuse?

check the wires themselves. this was the first problem i ever had with my bike, and its because the bikes are so old the wires could be corroded out, come loose, or been hacked to bits by a previous owner such as mine had been.

The thing that confuses me about the loose wire idea is that the tail light WILL turn on ONLY when the key switch is in the P position. I'm assuming P means 'Parking lights'. So I know the tail light wires are good.

the problem lies elsewhere.

theres another wire for the brake light. pull off your seat. and there should be a rubber boot underneath the rear tail fairing. inside are the connectors for the tail light, i would start there.

ok, start at the ignition switch. my lights do not come on in P. everything else works fine though? you need to get a manual, and a multi/voltmeter, and inspect the wires.

My lights also come on in P. Just noticed it the other evening - locked it, walked away, noticed the tail lights were on. Still searching for a reason! Rob

you have to make sure the key is turned all the way off.
