Default Sprocket size (Highway)

So i need a new chain and sprockets...

My question is what would be the tallest ratio I could put on and not lug the engine.

I do all freeway riding and the power is high enough for me.

does anyone know with 90ish horsepower the tallest gears I can put on my 89 hurricane?

Looked at stores and they are selling 16/34 and 16/36 sets and nothing lower... so is that the optimal gear ratio for the bike?

No. Take a look at this link (especially the chart near the bottom)

http://www.jtsprockets.com/52.0.html...sel_uid=4531&p=

I would not move any further up or down in ratio than 3 steps (ie 15/47 or 15/41) after that the ratios are starting to be a little tough on the streets.

Stock was 15/44 or 15/45 (depending on US or European models)

My advice, buy your sprockets spearately. Start off with a 16T front and see what that does for you. reason I recommend starting with the front is that theyre less expensive, and you may find thats exactley where you want to be.

do +1 -3, its great for the highway, lowers the r's a good amount, but it isnt to rough getting off the line either.

I ended up going with +1 -1 or -2 depending on euro or us yet to put it on though.... 65 should be right at the beginning of my power band
