Default Second Gear Whine

Greetings,

My 87 sat for about ten years and I’ve just finished fixing a lot of problems (tires, bearings, chain, brakes, forks, plugs, carbs, etc…). Bike was running fabulous the other day, but today I noticed a high pitched whine coming from the engine in second gear. Appears to be the only gear that does it, sounds like a whine that a supercharger makes. I heard that there was a second gear recall in these bikes and I spoke with Honda who told me, according to my VIN, that there are no outstanding recalls on my bike. Has anyone else experienced this? I do tend to engine brake quite a bit and have also noticed that the shift from first to second misses more often than I would like. I don’t want to blow my motor and I just started having fun on it again. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

i have the same thing: whines on 2nd gear only. Have about 30k miles on it and still nothing to be bothered about. Bike runs immaculate.

Bike: Honda CBR500F PC20 (It is based exactly on the PC19/PC23, only difference being the engine size and different crankshaft + connecting rods. It was an austrian exclusive model because it was a lot easier to get insurance for it compared to the pc19)
It makes 72hp stock so a tiny bit less than the pc19 of yours at around 85hp
