Default Running problems, Help please?

Hello, I ride a 1987 CBR600 Hurricane. The problem I am having is that sometimes while riding, the bike seems to lose power in the higher RPM range. I'll roll into the throttle and it will fall on it's face or start cutting out until I back off. It feels like it is running out of gas. I have had the tank cleaned and resealed (had rust in it), replaced the fuel petcock (leaked), replaced the fuel filter and had the carbs professionally cleaned and synched. Didn't know if the fuel pumps on these bikes were a problem area or how they work. I'm used to automotive systems that deliver a steady supply, this one seems to pulse and then stop pumpingonce so much pressure is built up (???). I was wondering if anyone had similar problems and what would happen if the pump was going out. Our other bike, a 1985 Kawasaki 700LTDand just about any other bike or ATV I have dealt with, was just fed straight from the tank to the carbs.

Thanks for any input, sorry so long winded

Default RE: Running problems, Help please?

you could bypass the pump by hooking the fuel hose directly to the carb fuel rail. disconnect the power to the pump and ride the bike around and see what happens or if you get the same results. just make sure you have enough gas in the tank as the bottom of the tank is lower than the carbs.

the pump is supposed to supply a steady flow. should not be cutting in and out.
