Default Regulator Ground

Hi,
I just received my aftermarket rectifier from Bike Bandit. There is no ground wire like there is on the one I just removed. Does it matter?

Thanks,
Barry

No, just bolt it on and connect and all will be OK. It will be grounded via the bolts. If you bought the same one that I did then it should work just fine!

Be certain you clean the contact points with the frame to assure a good ground. I recomend 220 grit sand paper.

Okay, I've got it all bolted on and the battery appears to be charging.

BUT I'VE GOT A NEW PROBLEM!

Now when the bike is idling the multimeter reads 14.5+. When I run it up to 5,000 RPM it reads 18+. Is this normal? Am I going to cook the battery?

It's not working. Is there an adjustment on it, or is it a sealed unit? Sometimes you can adjust the max voltage.

This might help, too, dunno.

Ok, I checked mine and I have 15.5-16 V at idle and 19V above 2000 RPM. My bike has run just fine since I installed this reg./rectifier. The battery stays charged and the bike starts right up after sitting, just like it should.
In my opinion, it's working like it's supposed to.
Keep in mind that while you are riding, the charging system is providing power to operate the bike AND keep the battery charged. Since the lights are always on this requires more power, as opposed to a car where the lights are not always on.( OK, unless you have a newer car with daytime running lights , which still are less watts than the normal nighttime lamps )
The OEM reg./rect. are a known problem on these bikes. Maybe they have a new design for the replacements. I don't know.
The reason I chose aftermarket is because they were much less expensive and I am tired of paying such a high price for OEM parts.
Hope this helps.
