Hey everyone, my name is Robert. I've been a member for a little bit now, mostly lurking. I've been working on an 89 F1 since March with my dad. Plans are a complete rebuld and overhaul. Hopefully making the bike better than new. Comments, suggestions are welcome. Thanks for looking! Updates will come as time, money and progress allows. Enjoy!
Here is what the bike looked like when I brought it home. Attachment 33425 My buddy called it Bike Tyson. We got into it and found so many hacks, the bike died, the charging system wasn't working. Attachment 33426 Attachment 33427 Attachment 33428 Attachment 33429 Attachment 33430 |

The bike wasnt charging the battery, Electrosport hooked me up. Helped me diag over the phone, overall an excellent company and I would recommend them.

Finally got the paint on. Went with a urethane single stage gloss black. Some of the bolts are polished and cleared. Its coming together nicely. Were waiting on wheel bearings so we can get the wheels on. The front forks and calipers were rebuilt. Should have a rolling chassis by this weekend!!

Looks great!
A little confused about the primer on the pipes...should be high heat paint. Best is ceramic coat oven cured. Keep posting as you go...love to follow restoration and project threads. |
Wow that's looking really good. the frame is in good condition and those plastics will come really good to with some patience. keep it up guys I'll be watching how it comes along too :)

I'm having the plastics worked on at the body shop at my work. A Co-worker said that he'd do them for next to nothing on his down time. I will be painting them myself as soon as the bike gets to that point. It's hard to tell in the pictures but the plastics are really bad, and we all know how much they are to replace!! The previous owner tried to glue tabs back on, missing tabs, ect. So everything needs to be gone over. We will be doing some minor engine work. Check the CCT, clean and paint the engine, adjust the valves. It runs very rich at the moment, plugs fouling. I did clean and replace worn parts in the carbs last year. After we get the bike mostly back together I will be dropping the bike off at Fast Bikes in Grand Rapids for a full dyno tune. They quoted me 350-500$ for dyno time, jetting and carb sync. I wonder what kind of HP i should expect?? So as you can see we have lots to do yet!! Thanks for all the good words as we are excited to be bringing one of these old girls back on the streets. Tomorrow we are balancing the wheels and putting them on, with new brakes as well! Stay tuned, thanks for looking! Robert. |

I LOVE when new parts show up! Called the local Honda dealer and their warehouse messed up. Ending up shipping them to my door instead of local pickup. Didn't charge shipping either!!
New wheel bearings and seals, plus brake pad guides for the front and rear. Attachment 33376 We got the wheels and brakes installed today so its rolling, and that's a great feeling. Also got the master cylinders and some brackets installed. Attachment 33377 Attachment 33378 Attachment 33379 Attachment 33380 And just in case anyone was wondering, here's how I did the silver colored Nissan on the caliper. Attachment 33381 A little 400 grit sandpaper and some patience. Attachment 33382 Peeled the tape and there you go! Attachment 33383 More plastics going to the body shop tomorrow, still need to locate a rear fender, probably some other odds and ends things. Thanks for looking!! |
