Default Problems w/new cct

just replaced my cam chain tensioner and now there is more noise. Not sure why. is this normal for a new cct? or is it possible to install it incorrectly?

You need to explain the "noise", it only goes in one way so I would say you couldn't install it wrong.

well my explanation is going to sound obvious but it is a mechanical noise. the noise speeds up with higher rpm's too. the noise was not there with the old cct. i dont know how else to explain it.

Was it a regular Honda cct, or an adjustable aftermarket one? I can't think of anything going wrong by replacing a stock cct with another stock one. Anyone else have some input?

There is the possibility that the "new" CCT might be one of the ones that Honda revised and no longer sells - if you look at the microfiche for that OEM part, there are like a dozen revisions.. I believe the latest one end with -023

The other sometimes overlooked part of the install is submerging the new CCT into engine oil while pressing on the piston/cylinder to remove air prior to install. Other than that it should just work - is it possible to have put it on upside down ? I know that the stock CCT has a little bump that needs to be lined up correctly so the you know it is on the right way?

I didn't do the submerge it in oil part. thats probably it. I haven't ridden it since i put it in without that step so i don't think it could have done damage. well hope not at least.

I doubt you messed anything up - I read somewhere in another thread that it is possible to get an OEM cct to start working properly by removing it and "flushing" the oil out until it is clean and the mechanism starts to move freely again.

The flushing trick worked with mine as well. Great tip!
