fix your crack first, then make sure you sand any scratches ect out. Using nothing coarser than 400 (most ppl say 320, but i always go 400 to be safe) for final prep sanding. Make sure to wetsand to get all dust off and to prevent the paper from clogging. Once youre happy with your sanding, apply adhesion promoter (available in aerosol cans) Not Too much just enough so its there, it should amost appear to evaporate quickly. Wait about 1-2 minutes then prime:

If youre using aersol cans get a can of bumper or flex primer.

If youre using a spraygun, you'll need a primer, reducer, and a compatible flex agent (mix accordingly, most paint supply shops have instructions on this) Some people say flex is not needed, which very well may be, but i always use it just to be safe and prevent cracking.

Let your primer coat dry and check for any scratches as they appear better when primed, if you find any, sand them, and repeat the priming process. Once primed, lightly wetsand using a 800 grit, and I mean really lightly, and stay away from edges as paint is really thin on edges. Make sure the surface is really clean before applying colour coat.

Single Stage: Apply your colour coat lightly just enough to achieve coverage, let it sit for 15 minutes, then apply another colour coat to geta nice even coverage, but dont be too overzealous as it you could cause runs. You may need 3 or sometimes 4 coats to get full coverage. Let it cure for at least 48 hours at a temp of 27 degrees C. Once youre done that you should be good to go for final sanding and rubbing compound if youre taking it that far. If not youre done.

Dual Stage: Same as above, but once done with colour coat, let cure for another 15 minutes then apply coats of clear coat to achieve a gloss finish. Apply them the same as colour coat, not too much as it will run. Now the thing with clearcoat is that if you apply too much, it may fog.
