Is the fuel shut-off on the the tank still turned off? I imagine you had to close the valve to keep the fuel from spilling out of the bottom....which leads me to my next question-->
Is there fuel in the tank?
Is there fuel in the tank?
First, unhook the tank and just hold the tank up in the air and turn the gas on. Does gas come out? Good. Just in case, UP is on, MIDDLE, is off, DOWN is res.
If not, maybe a new petcock or take the petcock off and see if the filter in there is all jacked. IF it is, you -can- take it off but you won't have "reserve" any more, just ON up or down. Then see if that helps gas come out. Good. Hook it back up to the fuel filter.
Can you see gas sloshing around in the fuel filter? Undo the line -after- the fuel filter and pull the fuel filter off the nub, if it's not already. Hold it up in the air and turn the gas on. Does gas come out? Good.
If not, get a new fuel filter.
Try coming out of the tank into the filter, out of the filter straight to the carbs, and bypass your fuel pump. You might need to go get some 3/8" fuel line at the autopoarts store.
You need to get the tank up higher than the carbs, too. I know you know all this, I'm just making sure.
If that works, maybe it's something with your fuel pump. REMEMBER, that if it's the stock pump, the lines go - - IN = the fitting closest to the INSIDE of the bike, farthest away from you. OUT= on the outside, closest to you. Sometimes if the fittings are hooked up backwards it won't work either.
If the fuel pump is working you can put your hand on it and feel it go thump thump thump when you crank the starter.
Hope some of that helps out.

i tried to turn the petcock up and it puts out a little fuel then stops. but when i turn it down it turns on and keeps going i am gonna look at the petcock again right now. i might have to put more fuel in the tank that might be part of the problem may i ask how the reserve tank work?

thanks again
If you take the petcock out there's a little plastic filter that goes over it thats really long. It gets cut in half by a rubber washer in the middle of the filter. When you turn the petcock UP (full CCW) it's "ON, which uses the gas through the top of the petcock and the top of the filter. when the gas gets down to the level of that rubber washer, it will stop going through the top of the petcock and you have to turn to RES, (Down, or full ClockWise) which uses the gas in the bottom of the tank. That little plastic filter can get messed up pretty easy. When I got my bike it was trash, and my petcock was bad too.
But when you have a problem, just start at the easiest place and work your way down, like my other post. Sometimes it's easy and you can do something on the cheap before you buy parts you don't need.
