Default New project?

So I came across this little gem sitting about an hour north of me. I saw this one up for sale the same time I got my bike this past summer, but when I went looking for it, I couldn't find it. Neat thing is this guy emailed me! I had an ad posted for wanted old cbr600s. It's a 1989. Guy had it as a streetfighter project before he got an old Porsche, which I'd imagine needs fixin'. Said he rode it a couple times in the summer, but not since (I know...). He has mocked up an F4i tail on it, but I don't think it's completed. He says he has all fairings but the clamshells. He said it doesn't run well now (probably the carbs, but yeah, who knows). Also doesn't have a cluster (so km's are a ?) or a fairing stay.

Opinions? I figure it might be as simple as a paint on the tank/tail, clean up the front end and put an aftermarket cluster in. Worse case scenario, I have a donor bike

Which brings me to my next point, do the CBR600F1.5 engines bolt in the F1's without too much trouble? Anyone done this? I know its a BIT of a power boost, but that's not what I am concerned about. I just like to have a spare powerplant if needed.

He was asking $400 in his e-mail, but he said it's just taking up space, so he is open to offers... Whats a good offer for a presumably non-runner? $200?

The 87-89 have identical engines. In 90 they made changes to the carbs and ignition system that I know of I'm unsure of any other changes made to the 90 model. That bike is definitely a fighter candidate though.

I paid $500 for mine when she was running ****ty. For that? I would be in at $250 on a good day. But really, a donor bike is always nice. Plus you can easily make your money back on a frame with a title.

According to the "Super Review"
For the 1989 model year the hugely successful CBR600 got upgraded with minor tweeks. It looked the same jelly mould bike but underneath it got higher compression (11.3:1, up from 11:1), the cam timing was revised, bigger carbs fitted, new ignition and a beefed up clutch. It also got adjustable rebound damping. Power was increased from 85Bhp to 93Bhp and, apparently was a noticeable difference.
I'm still really on the edge about this one. Problem is, I don't think I'd be able to just use it for parts - I know once I get my hands on it, I'd put everything into getting it back on the road... takes $$$$$

i say offer 250, see if you can get it running smoothly first, if so then build it the way you want, if not then sell it or use it as a donor. I fell like its a good idea to get these part bikes while there still floating around.... if you have the room for them.

I shouldn't say its a non-runner, he said "doesn't run well", but that could be anything I guess. I'll offer $200, and see what he says. Probably going to look this weekend...

Thanks guys

I consider rough runners non runners because your not going to want to ride around on a bike thats running rough. Is it in nanaimo? Thats where I bought mine a few years back. Get it up and running and head up north this summer and we can go for a ride to gold river

I was able to 'procure' a few more pictures...
"2.jpg" is what it looked like originally I guess. He says he still has all the original plastics (minus the clamshells, which it looks like he never had, hense the fighter project)
