New guy checking in...Howdy!
Hi, I'm new to the CBR forum. Just thought I'd drop a line to say a few words. I once owned an '87 Hurricane 600 (white). I bought it brand new when I was in high school, it was my first streetbike. I have lots of fond memories on that machine. Fast forward 20 some years, and I find a beater on craigslist. I had to rescue it from the jackass that owned it. He had the fairings attached to the frame with sheetmetal screws, the brake lever was snapped in half at the bolt/pivot point, but he ran some wire around it and screwed a tiny plate on the front so he could use it. That's just the tip of the iceberg. This thing is gonna be my first full motorcycle restoration, but I think when I'm finished, it's going to be quite a satisfying endeavor. It's definitely been thru the wringer!!
Other than that, I'm from International Falls, Minnesota. 40 years old, owned a '87 Hurricane 600, '92 GSXR1100, '91 CBR600 (race bike), '97 GSXR600 (race bike), '88 EX500, '01 SV650S (race bike). I currently own a '03 RC51 (previously raced, now street), '07 Triumph Daytona 675 (race bike), and of course another '87 Hurricane 600.
I hope to gain alot of info from this site that will help me in my resto project, as well as add my 2 cents where needed. It seems there are a lot of die hard, dedicated Hurricane owners here.

This is the only picture I took before tearing it apart. Unfortunately, the picture is quite deceiving. There's alot of bent stuff, and the screws in the frame are on the other side. There were standard bolts inserted here and there, as well as sheet metal screws installed in metric nut plates. Overall, I think I've got a good base to work with, and I just had to rescue her.

Doesn't look too bad.. those plastics look like they have potential. If you can get away with not having to paint the tank over again maybe you can just respray the fairings and keep it looking original. Make sure you share some pics as you are doing the work! How does the motor look so far?

I've already got 2 other tanks for it. The tank on the bike is banged up pretty good, but the inside is absolutely perfect. I bought another one off ebay - the outside looks good, but the inside is pretty rusty. I bought yet another one off ebay and it's almost absolutely flawless!! I'd like to get all the outer fairings in near perfect condition. I got a brand new set of inner cowlings (by handlbars), and a pretty good set of mirrors. I also have a good left side (tail) fairing with a few scratches at the rear. The engine has 33,000 miles on it and runs, but I'd like to go thru it with a once over. I've got a donor engine and frame with some extra tidbits that I got from a guy for doing stickers for him (my side hobby), so that might come in handy sometime soon. I'll definitely post some pics of the progress.
