Default New clutch problem?

I have just installed a new set of EBC fiber plates and springs in my 88. My issue is when I engage the clutch one would expect it to engage early but now it seems to just barely engage at all. I adjusted the cable out a lot to finally make it engage but this seems wrong. What have or haven't I done to my clutch to cause this?

Just for clarification, when you replaced the clutch plates and springs the stack should now be thicker... You should need to take up a bunch of slack in the cable.
Is the cable in good condition?

Did you replace your springs? I"m planning to put a new clutch in mine eventually, and some stiffer springs to help put ALL of the power from my motor to the wheel.

Someone needs to post up a in depth how-to on adjusting the clutch cable, because I can't seem to get it right either.

you adjust the cable at the side of the case so it has a little resistance, then back it off just slightly so that the clutch is fully engaged, then you adjust your lever so it has about 1/4 inch of play in it. bada boom done. If you want a little stiffness in your clutch, you can put 1 small washer under each clutch spring but only 1. Look on factorypro.com for the exact thickness they used.

Make sure that you have the same amount of plates as you had before. You could have misplaced one or just forgotten to install one of the plates.

I replaced the springs (which were thicker when compared to the stock), when I replaced the fiber plates I had them stacked in the order that they came off (first and last plate are different then the middle four). As I replaced a plate I put its counter part in the clutch basket so I don't think I was missing a plate.
