Default Is this necessary???

Ok, so I ordered a drilled air box off of e-bay that was pretty dirty. So I hosed it off and took it apart to dry faster. When i took off the cover for the 2 metal tubes in the intake tubes, I found this really weak foam stuff that just dissolved when I touched it. I think that the water had a bit to do with the fact that it dissolved. So I just washed all of the foam off (Probably not the smartest thing lol) and I went to see if I could get new tubes with the foam on them. I found out that I would have to get a whole new upper air box assy. in order to get what I need. So Basically what I want to know is if this stuff is even necessary to have or not? And again, the air box is drilled if that changes the answer.

I'll Try to get a video of it up tomorrow if I can. Thanks

Mine doesnt have any foam crap in it, I'd imagine its a prefilter of sorts to keep the bugs and such outta the airbox, I dont have em as I said, and it runs just fine.

It doesn't seem like it has any purpose at all except to just hold the tubes in place. here's a link to the video. I don't know if it works or not.

nope, that stuff is just like a prefilter. you can safely eliminate that whole metal tube thingie methinks.

Yeah, I guess that makes sense. It's kinda like the exhaust now that i think about it. Baffled tube with packing. lol And who wants to keep things quiet anyways? Thanks for your input.

Had mine off for about a year now. Runs great. They are just silencers used to eliminate that intake sucking sound you hear especially when the choke is on warming up.
