Default Layed down bike for first time...

Well I layed the bike down this afternoon. On the way home i was pulling into my carport and the front brake locked up, i let off the brake and it didnt release! Went sliding across the carport towards the block wall and decided to dump it right there..... Bike is okay minus a few scrathes on the engine and the handlebar end peg bent out of shape. Bent the mirror on the left side all the way in but the mirror was no good anyway. Im okay but now that the adrenaline has wore off my back is a bit a sore. Just a reminder to be carefull!

Hey man sorry to hear about that. Hope you get better soon and you know that could've been alot worse. Get those brakes checked out. It's a good reminder for all of us.

Sound like caliper rebuild time. Could just be the pins. The seals get worn through and water and dirt get in there and muck stuff up. Mine were looking nasty and hanging up a bit. I just used a bench grinder with a wire brush wheel and removed the corrosion and got it all goopy with bearing grease. Never gave me a problem since.

Alright guys need a bit of advice. I changed the front brake pads today. Cleaned and greased guide pins, removed caliper pistons and cleaned and greased as well. Nothing was really dirty except the guide pins which had some very hardened grease on them. I thought I found the problem when one side the pad material was literally falling off, i assumed that was causing the binding. When i clamped the old brake pad the clamp literally went straight through it like a fresh drill bit! I put it all back togother and bled the brakes really well noticing the lever was not stiffening up despite the fact all the air was definitely gone. Tried to move the bike and voila, locked up caliper. For the time being i removed the locked up caliper and took the pads out of the opposite side to transport to my dads house. He suggest we hone out the caliper with a brake hone but i doubt the seals are coming out without destroying them am i correct? Should I order new seals and hone them or simply order a caliper. Suggestions?

Well you can order a replacement caliper, but it is probably not going to be in any better shape than what you have. Just get the seals and do it right from the get go...
