Just bought 89 f1
Hi, I am new to group and love all the forums and info.
I bought a used 89 cbr600 f1 for $400. The guy was moving out of state and was asking 800 but his moving time was moving up on him quik. It is a naked bike thats between rat and cafe. Anyways The battery was dead when I bought it but I did hear it turn over for about 10 seconds. Its been sitting for about 6 months now. It needs a batt and I wanna know what are the problem areas if it wont start or the methods of starting this if it wants to be a butt head. I would like to get a haynes book for it but no money right now. Please any help is good help. Thank you.

RE: Just bought 89 f1
In addition to racerrick, my suggestions are:
(a) download the F1 Honda manual from Rrasco's CBRExtreme.com.
(b) drain the carbs as per manual.
(c) Mine is always a **** to start if there's not enough gas in the carbs (like if its been sitting a long time). So I put a jumper lead between the batteryconnector and the fuel pumpconnector (at the 3pin connector - see the manual)to charge the carbs with gas, to cut down on cranking time to fill the carb float bowls. Might need to remove the seat or tank to do this, so try it if you think your new battery is going to go flat when you're cranking the engine over.

I have the haynes manual on my computer, if you want i will email it to you. I like rrasco's manual, but its from honda more geared for honda tech's where as the haynes maual is more geared towards the do-it-yourselfer who may not have all of the honda specialty tools.

There is a link for the Haynes Manual, I had to upload it to mediafire as its too large for email. You'll need to download it and un-rar it using Winzip or WinRAR.
