Default I could have swore the hurricane was faster...

When I started riding about a year and a half ago. My first bike was a 95 seca II, and my second one, was a 1990 cbr600 that was stolen about 6 hours after I got it. Since then, ive always wanted to get another cbr...I guess kinda out of spite you know? Anyways, I just sold my 1984 gpz900 and saw a good deal on a 87 cbr600. I jumped on the deal, but im a little dissapointed. It just doesnt seem as fast as I remembered it being. I know it has about 10 horses less than the 90, I guess what im trying to say is that the hurricane seems really tame when accelerating. My bike has 27k on it, and im thinking that the easiest thing to do to make it yank my arms off is to put a different sprocket on. What are your guys experiences with the aftermarket sprockets for this bike? Please be specific with your weight, the amount of teeth, power wheelability, and whether you stunt or commute with it.

You are coming off the 900 man...it's nothing to scoff at. It's quite a bit quicker than the 600.
I weigh 190 and was completely stock.......ran 11.74@114. Doesn't seem slow really. It's no where near my 900RR or 1000 but still no slouch.
It was for commuting and simply riding the back roads. Never once did it wheelie in 1st with out some help from the clutch.
Yes the Hurricane is 10hp down on the CBR.
Sprockets will be the cheapest.

yeah, what I DO like about it, is it is definitely more nimble than my 900, but I gotta tell you, it was more comforting having a bike that would still lurch forward in 6th ateven 5k when i needed it to. Any information on sprockets would help me out

Welcome to owning a 600cc bike again. If you want power at 5k you are in the wrong game.......that requires liter bike territory there. A 600 doesnt wake up until 9k. My wifes R6 is an absolute pooch below 10 grand, but above it's pretty fun in deed.

As for sprockets......dont go below 14 on the countershaft. If you go -1 and +2 with a 520 kit you will like it. Very much. Your top end will die to around 125 but really.......who cares about that right?

I have an 87, and it rips. I did also put an 89 engine in it a few months ago, so I actually have a 93HP Hurricane, ooh ya!

When I got my bike it had 14 (-1) and 50 (+6). I never rode it that way, but I can imagine it was pretty ridiculous, but would probably only go 100 in 6th gear.

I bet the 14 (-1) and 46 (+2) would indeed be fun for you, and I would also suggest that you make sure your carbs are jetted and set up correctly.

Yeah, I dont go much faster than 120-130 in my "old" age (im 21) :P I probably wouldnt mind a =5 or something if it topped out at like 100, as long as it got more torque.

i have -1+2 setup 530 pitch. i give it a snap of the throttle in 1st or 2nd and it comes right up if i dont lean down. mine dies about 130 tops out about 135-138 but thats all i need. i think your best advises would be keep the stock pipe +4 advance and -1/+2 with some 93octane(most people run 87 or 89 here i run 93+ jsut because i am perticular about it and you should be fine!!

1990 was when the engine gained 10 horsepower.
According to this link the 89' still had 83 horsepower. http://www.cyclechaos.com/wiki/Honda_CBR600F
