Default hurricane 600 1989 overheats

my mint 600 ,is getting hotter than hell , fans not kicking in .
the last thing I did was change the voltage regulator , and removed the gas tank and carbs to clean . could I have undone a fan connector ?
or where is the fan relay ,sensor, etc ? fuse etc,
what could have happened or where should I start ,
I added coolant .
thx,Joel

You could have undone the fan but that only helps at a light or very slow riding speed.

Download a manual and wiring diagram

I had that model back in '89,believe me it also ran "Hot".
Fuses were under the left hand cover below the left handle bar.

I would do a couple things, check your thermostat, you can do this by removing the tank and taking the thermostat out and testing it over the stove at 183 degrees to see if it opens. If its not opening or closing then its gone bad. $30 to replace unless you can find a cheaper one. I would check your hoses and your fan as well.
My 87 600 runs hot and its a common for the Hurricanes.
If your adding fluid then its going somewhere. Start it and see where its going.

Fist question is how comfortable are you with wiring diagnosis?

Smile thx for the help

fuses good, im testing the thermostat , seems stuck , boiled it 195, didnt open , poured 190+ water on it didnt open . so im on the hunt for one .
the bike started overheating almost right away , i didnt hear the fan kick on . so thats another concern.
if the coolant reservoir is full , I shouldnt have to add coolant where the thermostat goes ,right? it should pull it from the resv .when the thermostat is working, correc? thx for all the help so far! cant wait to get this bike on the road again ,
looks like the one on the clymer manual! its my pride and joy

I'm not up on this model, but is it possible to run it without the thermostat to see if it still overheats?

a purely temporary measure though.

youre switch for the fan is on the left side of the rad. When the bike is hot the switch should close the circuit so let your bike idle until it gets warm, take a test light and check the switch. If the switch is good, check the wires. If all is good after that, take the fan out and check the brushes inside for corrosion, it works on the same principle as a starter.
