1) a batteries normal life span is about 4 years. since motorcycles usualy get run less, the life span goes down.

2) more likely the regulator isn't controlling the current, possibly overcharging the battery. the cdi doesn't produce current and i dont see how the cdi would damage the battery. it'd be the other way around

3) the cdi could have been fried from the booster, over current from the battery, or something is wrong with your wiring.

4) i have a spare cdi, what year is your bike? other sources for the reg; bikebandit.com

5) depends what year your bike is to what cdi you need. you will have to get one from a similar year CBR. the 87-88 F1's didn't have a kickstand safety switch, and the 1990's only used one pulse generator instead of the previous two.

extra credit/bonus question) i think you will have to keep the battery in the circuit to initialy power the ignition. im not positive, but i dont think the alternator makes enough current at low rpm's to be able to bump start your bike without a battery.

do you have a manual? you can download one at cbrextreme.com, search for it. i would go through the tests for all the electrical components. use a volt/ohm meter and test the alternator, and voltage regulator. the blowing fuse part is kinda weird. that to me indicates a short somewhere either in the eletrical components, or bad main harness wiring.

ah, i dont know if bike bandit ships overseas. should be local companies, or even a honda dealer can order parts.

let me verify my cdi works, i've never actualy tested it. my bike is an 87, so if it works ill figure out a price shipped to the UK.

i'd first find out why the fuse is blowing. did it only blow the fuse when the booster was hooked up? i would think a booster would work the same as an extra battery. i know its safe to run your bike off a car battery, but only if the auto alternator isn't charging.../car not running. its possible the booster pack is over powering the system, but i would take a close look at all the wiring also.
