Help! Cleaning Carbs.
Hi, I just got a 1990 F1. After a little work I got it to run and idle pretty good. As soon as I twist the throttle the motor dies. I decided to clean the carbs to see if that would remedy the problem.
I'm trying to follow the Clymer manual to clean the carbs but I'm getting confused. It says to unscrew and remove the main jet, needle jet, and the pilot jet. So far I have two jets out. Is the third jet to remove the smooth looking one with no slot? I want to make sure I'm trying to remove the correct part. If there is no slot or nut, am I supposed to use a channel-lock plier to twist it out? Thanks for any help. I just don't want to damage a piece that wasn't supposed to come out.

Looking at the factory manual, it seems that Clymer means to remove the
1. main jet
2. slow jet ( pilot jet )
3. needle jet holder ( the piece that the main jet screws into ). It is hexagon shaped so you can use a socket on it.
4. float valve seat/holder (which apparently has a little filter on it)

After I put the carbs back on everything seemed fine. Fast, snappy throttle response. So I have continued breaking the bike down and repairing everything I can see. The bike was in terrible shape. The ebay seller was very misleading.
It's slow-going as I have never owned nor worked on a motorcycle before.
I might start a thread to show my progress.
