yeah one of the coils was broken, actually I think I saved the bulb..a sec..

bah, camera refuses to focus that close, but the lower,shorter,fatter coil has a break in it and a gap

ok, just making sure. that would suck to replace the bulb and it turn out to be a wiring problem.
