Head Gasket
Well, i was going to install my new clutch basket tonight, but noticed i didnt have the needle bearing so i decided to take a run into the dealer to order one......all is well. On the way there, I say, I want to see what this fresh carb cleaning and new advancer will do. So I snap er open! get up to about 200KM and all of the sudden she bogs, and bogs and bogs, so i pull off an exit and she quits........ so i let er sit for a few, fire er back up and shes boggy, so i crack er wide open for a second and she seems to clean up. Get to the dealer shut er down and get off.......I smell something sweet........look down at my footpeg and the sprocket cover has these little orange dots on it......I say uh oh.......so i go in order my needle bearing and head for home, on thw way home just at cruising speed, same thing, she bogs and dies. Starts up after a bit and away I go. get home pull the plastics and fire er up. And I can see just under the carbs at the head gasket, a small area of sludge forming and as fan kicks in I can see small bubbles comming from behind the sludge. F! I say! and pull off the carbs and open up the clutch to remove the basket. As I pull the carbs I pull the vent tube off of the valve cover and it looks like some **** star spooged into it! Soooooo I have myself a blown head gasket. Now ive never had a head off of a bike before, however i did read tha manual, and it does seem like something I can tackle on my own, only question is, is it difficult to set the valve timing on re-assembly?

RE: Head Gasket
Not difficult at all. Just follow the manual. I suggest you get a top overhaul gasket kit, rather than just the head gasket.
You might want to figure out why the headgasket blew before you buy any parts. That spoog you refer to - maybe a pornstar or someone's already given it a head job? [sm=smiley35.gif] [:'(]

Make sure you use a good "ASSEMBLY OIL" when you reinstall your cam shafts. I blew my head gasket a couple of months ago and have been having problems since I replaced it. I don't know for sure if it's from overheating the bike or from not using good assembly oil on the cam bearings. I used some syntheticgrease I had laying around my garage. The cam bearings andjournalslook and sound alittle rough now. It may be my cam chain guides sounding rough but the cam bearings and journals don’t look good. Since I got hit by Hurricane Ike I haven't had any time to spend on the bike to get it running right again.
Assembly oil is cheap.
Here’s a link on valve clearance specs…
