handlebar conversion
Hi everyone,
I'm thinking of doing a handlebar conversion on my 87 cbr600f. I have looked at convertibars and the conversion kits made by spiegler. Anyone know of any other options? I was thinking of using risers like this

not sure if i could just drill holes in the metal piece on the bike between the stock clip-ons and mount them. Any thoughts?

RE: handlebar conversion
you can mount risers but the stock top clamp needs reinforcement on the bottom side of the top clamp. without doing so you run the risk of the riser mounting bolts breaking through the top clamp. you need a plate on the underside to help take some of the riser mounting bolt force over a larger area, kinda like a big bolt washer.
you could see if abm makes a clamp for the size forks you have. or take the top clamp to a machine shop or welder for some added reinforcement. i wouldn't do it without it. the stock top clamp isn't made for the purpose you have in mind.
aside from that should you actually do the conversion, you will also need to extend the electrical wiring, brake line(s), and clutch cable to make up for change in handlebar distance.
