Default Gauge Brightness

1990 CBR600 - the gauges seem to be pretty dim to me, definitely difficult to read at a glance. Is there any sort of brightness adjustment that I am missing? Are there replacement bulbs that make the gauges brighter?

Also, I have one burnt out at the top of the tachometer, how hard is it to replace these bulbs, and where can I buy them?

Thanks

I haven't done this on my F1 yet, but replacing instrument cluster bulbs has been a moderate to serious pain in the *** on every vehicle I've owned so far.

When I redo my cluster this winter I'm going to replace all the stock bulbs with uber bright LEDs.

Those bulbs should be available at your local auto parts store. Not hard to replace but takes some time and patience. Check them all as you probably have more than one out.

Funny you should bring this up now. I'm in the middle of an '87 resto, and I just rebuilt/refurbished my instrument cluster today. I replaced all of the bulbs. From experience on my Chevy Silverdoo, I find that if you replace one bulb, you might as well replace all of them. For some reason the rest of them will go out soon (voltage imbalance with weak bulbs???). The stock bulbs are Stanley 158. I went to the local Napa dealer and picked up 10 each 194's. They are the same voltage but with higher candle power. He cross referenced it for me. Like I said, I'm in the middle of a resto, so I can't confirm that they work, but he did cross reference for me, and it only cost me $7.38 to replace all 10 bulbs (11 if you have the side stand light) in the instrument cluster.
As far as getting access, just remove the left and right side panels (small ones under the controls, remove the center bolt, and two side bolts, and the speedo cable, along with the wire connector and the whole thing comes out. When you pull the bulb out, grab the rubber tab, along with the wires and wobble it out gently (it's slotted on the same plane as the wires).
