Fuel Leak and dropping power?
I recently bought a 2002 CBR600F-Sport and I'm having some issues...
To start, the bikes hasn't been used much in the last 10 years and has probably been sat for most of it (not in a dry garage).
After riding the bike back from the seller I found it couldn't hold idle and kept dying. New spark plugs fixed this issue, however i also had to change the fuel return hose as it had a split. Most of the hoses look past best, most of the vacuum hoses had mould on them but the bike was running fine.
Yesterday I went on a longer ride and everything was good for the first half. However then i started getting issues. The bike would hold idle but whenever I asked for power there would be patches of power dropping however the revs on the dial didn't seem to drop. There was also a strong smell of fuel but I couldn't find a sign of a leak (no wet patches when parked). The bike was loosing a lot of fuel (half a tank for 40 miles) but i managed to get home. Bike was left overnight and didn't seem to lose any more fuel.
On a side note, the bike won't start anymore. The dash turns on, can hear the pump priming (there's fuel in the tank) but when i press the ignition starter doesn't try and turn engine over, I just hear a click from a relay next to the battery. Examination of this shows a bit of corrosion, on the fuse and in the fuse port but the fuse looks unbroken.
Problems I know about:
- Smelled like it was running rich before (previous owner said someone had 'made the fuelling better')
- Vacuum hoses looked fairly manky, unsure if completely fine.
- Vacuum hose port to one side of airbox snapped off.
- Old spark plugs had black tips (carbon? sign of running too rich?)
Things I've done since ownership
- Changed spark plugs
- Changed fuel return line. Not an exact match but as close as I could get from Euro car parts. Checked this morning and it's still attached securely.
Has anyone experience these symptoms before? Appreciate it's a lot to read through!
