Default Erractic Idle

My 88 has developed a strange idle problem. It idles from 1100 to 1400-1500 then drops back down to 1100. It does this constantly at idle. Otherwise the bike runs great. Any suggestions?

Maybe a carb synchronization will help.

Could also be the fuel pump or a number of other things.

My bike idles fine, but when riding it will idle at 2000 when at lights, sometimes creeping back down to 1100.

I think this is because its running rich and still has excess fuel in the carbs after rolling off the throttle

Mine does fine but in riding it will be at two thousand at lights, then creeps back down to normal.

Have you ever worked on the carbs? Has the bike been sitting at all? Do you know how to test the charging system?

I had bogging and stalling and then hard/no start issues. it ended up being a R/R and a melted Stator harness. the fuel pump becomes current starved when you get on it because of the ignition system and it loses fuel and dies.

I've worked on carbs before. I'll check the charging system first, although the bike has sat for a couple of months.
