Default Clutch problem

Hey just fitted new clutch friction plates and springs , done everything to the Haynes manual yet I have nothing.. , clutch feel good on the handle apart from bit heavier as heavy duty springs . As soon as I put in gear it jumps forward and kills bike instantly as though there's no clutch . ?? I don't have a clue what's wrong . Everything back were it was originally.

Sounds like the clutch needs to be adjusted.. with new friction plates & springs the engagement point will probably not be in the same spot as it was before. Try tightening the cable on the clutch side until the clutch will release completely and then fine tune it by the specs in the manual.

Large adjustments are done on the clutch side, and small adjustments are done on the lever side of the cable.

ive done the adjustments today on clutch side so theres no slack on handle, yet nothing ...put into gear and stalls instantly yet it feel as though its pushing clutch in like it should but very heavy because of springs ? i put plates in as i thought they was ment to go in ... from rear of basket , friction plate , then metal if im correct then friction etc. i did the main clutch nut up till it was tight were it was marked before removal. then tightened bolts for springs until tight.. as couldnt find torques in haynes manual ?

If you still have the old clutch springs try swapping them back in as the stiffer springs might possibly be keeping the clutch from disengaging. This reminded me of a problem I had with stiffer clutch springs I bought a couple years ago. I can't remember if I had the same problem as you, but I do know that the clutch did not work correctly with the new springs I put in. I think the windings were too thick and were binding up the springs before the clutch was releasing completely.

Tried old springs and no success what so ever also installed new clutch cable , so they have all come back out including plates , the only thing did notice was they had got bit stuck together with the oil ?? .. Do u do spring bolts up till they nip tight or is there torque setting I don't know about ? Thanks

I'm sure there is a torque spec on the clutch bolts, but as long as they are tight it should not have an effect on this problem. I don't have a manual handy right now to check. Without being able to see the bike in person it sounds like the clutch is not disengaging which would basically mean something installed wrong or incorrect adjustment. Try adjusting the clutch side of the cable all the way tight and see if it still has the problem. It still sounds like an adjustment problem to me..

Hey everyone , left cbr for week a so now and have had another stab at trying to get clutch to work today and still no success at all , tried old springs and still nothing ... Only thing left is to put old worn plates back in and try but feel like that's defeating the object , I have no idea what to do . When pulling handle in it fells lovely smooth heavyish handle .. Any help would be great as really stuck now . Even new cable hasn't made any difference at all . Just drops in gear and stalls instantly as though there's no clutch at all .
