Default Cloud's Charging Problems

Ok, so the Regulator rectifier has been replaced with a brand new one. The stator has been replaced with a used one. There are no plugs anywhere to be found, everything has been wired straight through. I have a voltage meter hooked up to the battery. The battery currently has a charge of 12 volts. When idling, the meter reads 13 volts. When I apply gas, the meter drops to whatever charge the battery is holding. I have ran it up and down the tachometer, and anytime gas is applied the meter reads the 12 that's in the battery regardless of rpms.

Anyone have any thoughts on this. It doesn't make sense to me that it is willing to charge at idle but not when riding.

Disconnect R/R from stator and test the stator again. It's normal for the voltage readings to drop like that when everything's hooked up.

My bike produces similar voltages with a dvom on the battery, and the battery & charging system are all working properly. I was also concerned when I first checked the voltage, but I keep mine on a 1amp battery tender in the garage, and within a few min. of plugging it in after getting home it shows a full charge every time since replacing the r/r over a year ago. I don't have an analog meter, but I wonder if the voltages may be different than with a dvom on the battery.

I would check the stator as mentioned to make sure it's not defective, and verify the wiring between the stator and r/r is solid. If that all checks out take the bike for a short ride and check the battery voltage when you get back. I did basically the same thing after replacing my r/r and having the same result. If the battery stays fully charged after riding the bike for a bit the charging system should be working.

An OE or Electrosport R/R should show 13.5 v at battery at 4-5000 rpm. If your battery is poor or low it may be 14.2-14.5v . At rest cold the battery should be 12.7 v minimum. Irregardless, if you're not showing above 13v at idle at the battery there is a problem. Make sure whatever meter you use it shows voltage in tenths of a volt (ie 12.2, 13.3 etc). There is no difference in differential DC voltage readings from analog to digital meters (electrical technician 25+ years). Hope this helps.
