Default Can't see coolant level... ideas?

Hey guys, after buying my bike this saturday, I had to top it up with coolant. I filled it just over the full mark.

Now, it seems like it's empty again :S But the problem is, I find it very hard to see the level of the coolant... any ideas/tricks on how to see it more easily?

Thanks!

If you are loosing coolant You need to check for leaks, and all hoses for cracks etc. And if that's all good, then you may need to pull the plugs and check to see if your burning coolant - bad head gasket.

Definitely no leaks, already checked for that. When I pull the plugs, what should I look for to determine if its burning coolant?

Thanks

Back to my original question tho.. even when I did fill it, I found it very difficult to see where the coolant level was at. Does the reservoir need to be cleaned-out maybe?

I know this seems like a silly question but its just frustrating when you can't tell how much coolant is in it

wait, are you filling the reservoir or the filler under the tank? the under tank filler you can CLEARLY see whats in there.

the reservoir, not so easy.

check the metal tubes on the back under the carbs going into the cylinders. the O ring often fails due to age n one or both of those pipes. replace the O ring. trust me, dont try to redneck engineer with RTV sealer. someone did that on my last CBR, and made a HUGE MESS.

Yes I was filling the little coolant tank under the gas tank and couldn't see it! honestly I'm not crazy! lol I cleaned off the filled tho and i can kind of see the level now.. just dirty inside too. Hope I'm making sense

I'll check those tubes later today, sounds like a good possibility.

Is it possible it would have burned off an entire tank of coolant in just 15km? Because that's what happened...

if thats what happened, you'd be blowing EPIC white smoke cloud of water/coolant vapor.

likely you have a huge leak somehwere. go through every component, clean everything, and inspect for leaks.

That's what is interesting... No white smoke whatsoever, so it must not be burning any.

I filled the coolant back up and put another 10km on it... The level is way down again, but I can see there is still a little left in it now. Will check for leaks today, that must be it...

are you burping the system to get air out too? if not, do that first, THEN search for leaks. air bubbles take a surprising amount of space up.
