Default Battery Runs Down

After charging the battery the bike starts up first try, but after running it for awhile the battery runs down and it has issues starting (solenoid clicks but not enough juice to get it to go.) I can bump start the bike and it runs. But eventually it runs down to the point where I can't even get it to bump start. Where should I check for wiring issues? Battery? Alternator?

Regulator/rectifier
Check the charging rate across the battery with a voltmeter at 3000 revs - if it's below 13.5V your r/r is probably cooked or there's a major power drain somewhere.. Easy to fix - 15 minutes and around $100 or take a chance on a secondhand one on fleabay...............
look up Electrex on google - r/rs come with a year's guarantee. I have one - excellent.

i thought mine was bad and it ended up being bad wire connections, make sure there's none that have gotten too hot and roasted or somethin

Is it a new battery?

Check the voltage while running like Shadow said. If it is low the charging system is at fault.

Test the battery as well. Charge it up and measure the voltage and then leave it for a day. If the voltage reading is way under what it was right after you charged it, your battery is bad.

The battery is new, but it seems to hold a charge fine when not on the bike. Any wires in particular that tend to go bad? I went over most of them and didn't notice anything melted or frayed. I'm thinking it's a regulator/rectifier issue. I'll check the charging rate tomorrow.

Yes. The wires that connect the R/R. Can't see them unless you take off the gas tank and look at them.

Okay. The stator is fine, the wiring seems to be fine, the battery is good, the rectifier of the R/R is good (checked the resistance between diodes), but it's still not charging. So I'm guessing it's the regulator portion of the R/R that is shot.

What's the best brand to replace with? RMSTATOR or Electrex?

When I had charging issues, it turned out to be stator wiring in a connector block gone bad.

What is your charging rate at 5000rpm?

Was only getting ~12.6v at ~5000rpm. Out of the stator I was getting ~60v AC. So it's good up to the R/R. Checked all the rectifier diodes and they're good, so it must be the regulator portion that's shot. Anyways, I ordered a replacement, so hopefully that takes care of the issues!

So I installed the new R/R and the problem persists. Only getting about ~12.5v charging rate, and it's pretty consistent even when I increase the revs. Any ideas? The stator appears to check out. There's a drain somewhere but where?
