Hi Im looking for a good used set of carbs for My 87 600 f.
the old owner took a round file to the stage 2 jets and f**cked them up bad
He thought He did good job but come to find out Not so good when I added a new fuel pump. forget Idling because it floods out 1 and 4 tell you get the bike moving then they lean out some and It well run better.
I had to repack the exhaust and man talk about black sut so I know its been running rich for a while.
Is there anyone that can help??

 

Rather than a new set of carbs I would get some new jets first. They are cheap.

If the guy took a file to things he may have dicked with other parts but start with the jets.

Check the diaphrams in the top of the carbs as well.

Carb sets do come up for sale occasionally around here and on ebay.

I agree with the bastard, Joe. What exactly did he "file", anyway?

If there's gas coming out of the overflow tube at idle, it's more likely your problem is a sticky float, or a float that has a crack in it and isn't "floating" in gas anymore. Take the carbs apart and toss the floats in a bowl of gas and see if they "float".

The other (idling) problem may be that the float needle is not seating well, make sure it's really clean and doesn't have any pits or marks on it.

It's really unlikely that you actually need a whole new set of carbs. If some guy filed the main jets, you can get 4 new ones for less than $10.

 

I have check diaphragms and they are all good the needles don't look all that
good little petting on one they look like aluminum so they would really need to go.
Maybe some good stainless. The Guy said they where drop in jets so if that is the case
it well make replacing them easy.
dose a jet kit come with idle jets?

I have checked the float they are fine.
I have taken the carbs apart because they where really in bad shape when he parked her she had a full tank of gas and the cap leaked water into tank when it rained which got into the carbs and this was 4 years ago.
So needles to say they where very nasty.
I had to dig the junk out of them.
They dont flow fuel out no so the floats are good.
I did note that at idle you can see the fuel role out the jets and when you give a little acceleration it well clear out.
I well try a set of jets but I also need a adjuster screw because one is broke.
You got any link to a good complete kit set?
