Question 88 600 question

Hi all, finally got a bike although its an 88 and im sure i need a new cam chain. Ive basically brought this thing back from the dead but twice now ive been riding and come up to a stop and the bike dies. First time almost drained the battery before it finally started, and today it started right back up. Ive got new plugs, r/r, stator, full of fuel. Has this happend to anybody or anybody have an idea of what to check? Thanks for any help or tips!

Were you engine braking? If you're bike doesn't run its either spark or fuel and it looks like you've done a good job of taking care of the most possible spark problems.

Hey medic, Don't know if you figured out the problem yet. I was having a problem with my 88 as well with it dying but it would sputter before it died. It would gradually lose power before it died down completely.
I ended up cleaning out the carbs and that definitely helped.

When are you getting a cam chain tensioner? I know I need one too, but the mechanic told me the part is like 150 bucks plus like 2 hrs of labour. So, I might try to wait out a season but he said that if its not done pretty soon, the engine could seize.

Anyway, keep us posted mate.

CCT cost about 60 bucks for the CCT itself and about another 60 for the adjuster.

Bike died on me by engine braking comong to a red light, also has died with clutch in, which is another issue that just started, clutch is slipping at about 7000, so new springs and friction plates. As far as the cam chain my buddy worked at a suzuki/honda shop and told me the cbr motor is notorius for rattles. He told me not to worry about the chain, so gonna try and tear down this winter. I really enjoy riding this thing, but as old as it is bound to have things go wrong. Thanks for the replies!!

Yup even new cbrs rattle, its the valve adjustments. If its adjusted properly, it rattles. If you dont hear a rattle.....better get your valves checked cause they're about to snap.

Well now more problems, rode to my brothers yesterday, about a 45 min ride. Got a block from his house and killed it at a stop sign. Bike would not restart. Sat about 15 minutes bike started, rode to work, again about another 45 min. I shut it down, tried to restart, would not start. After bike cooled down it restarted. So i checked pulse generator like manual said. Readings were 530 ohms, and 553 ohms. Checked primary side of coils both were 3.1. Checked plug wires. They were good although i saw some green corrosion inside, not sure how much problem that would cause. Another thing im wondering, would it be wise to run the bike and get it hot and check the pulse generator again or am i wasting my time?

Pull your plugs and see what colour they are. If they are black your bike might be running too rich for the warm temperatures.

Ok this morning i pulled all the plugs and they looked as good as the day i put them in. Started the bike warmed it up and checked pulse gen again. No2 was right 550 ohms. No1 was at 581 ohms. So could this be the problem or am i way off base here. Thanks for allthe help cause without it id be lost.
