Default 600f emissions question

Hi, I'm a new member today and joined because I have the dilemma of removing all the emission stuff from my 1989 CBR600F (California) The air suction valve assembly got damaged in a collision so I can dump it all or look for a second hand piece. Can you advise me what to do if I remove the vacuum pipes?

Damaged in a collision? Really? Pics or it didn't happen.
There are a couple of threads about removing all the emmisions crap...use the search feature and there is a wealth of knowledge to be had. https://cbrforum.com/forum/showthrea...lifornia+model

Back in the 1987 Cycle magazine there was an article entitled Project Hurricane: Off to war on Honda's CBR600... They described removing the California model's emissions crap and installing the 49 state cam. The 49 state cam opens the the intake valves 12 degrees sooner and closes them 14 degrees later. You also need to swap in the 49 state CDI since the timing is controlled there electronically and the California model's timing is quite retarded in comparison. The other two differences are the California model has slightly leaner needle jets and air injection lines that need removal followed by plugging the inlet holes as well as shyte canning the charcoal canister.

Thumbs up California model conversion

Thanks for all that detail. I didn't think there would be that much difference in the timing configurations just to save the planet a few hydrocarbons and some CO2. I ripped off the principles from a Kawasaki blog and have removed the offending gear which weighs about 1.5 kg all up and plugged the various orifices. I'll run it as is for a bit to see what happens but if there is anything out there ( 49 state cams and cdi unit ) it would have to be cheap though, I might consider it. I also find it amazing that the CA modle could produce the same kW with such mild cams?? and retarded ignition. I don;t have access to a dyno in my small town so tuning will be done the old way - seat of pants and plug checking.

I might post some photos if I can figure out how.

With all the changes they were able to pull a 13% increase in peak horsepower from the California model, but it still fell short of the 49 state bike by two hp.
The California model was weaker 62 vs 69hp. They also stated it was easier to get the hp with individual filters and a pipe...closer to 76hp at the rear wheel.

I'd take issue with your "wealth of knowledge" statement. Wealth of questions maybe? when I search the blogs. All seems to revlove around differences btween different pipes, air filters and jetting kits people have had on as much as the MASSIVE differnece in inlet and exhaust valve timing. As I don't have access to F2, F3 etc or 49 state carbs from whatever model (and it costs as much to ship them to NZ as buy on ebay), I'm going to have to fix this the KIWI way. Back-yard, old school, seat of the pants carb tweaking. Can't do much about the CDI.
Thanks for your time. I'll post that photo of the broken ASV which I Now think would have been easier to replace than the path I have gone down now.

Well...more than half the battle with the search is knowing what key word or phrase to search. Trust me, you are not the only one to have difficulty. The carbs you have can be rejetted and the parts are out there.
How did you get a California model in Kiwiland?

Default Peak HP?

When you say THEY in that reply are your referring to the article in that Cycle mag. Can I get that online?
Here are the pics I just took.
ASV valve amongst the other bits removed and the exhuast holes with my stainless plates cover plus the forks and wheel proof of damage you asked for.

There is the article in higher resolution. I guess it pays to hang onto magazines for 20+ years.
