Default 1990 CBR600 Wont stay in neutral

Hello, I was hoping to get some directions of why my bike is not staying in neutral. I got this bike as a project bike. I've been putting it together little by little. One of the things I noticed from the beginning is that the bike wont stay in neutral at the moment of moving it or starting it. Now, I feel that it might be the clutch disks that might be dirty but It seems that I cant remove the nut that holds them. need some ideas of why is not staying in neutral and how to get the plates. Thanks

The nut is staked, so without prying some of the stake out, you may have a hard time getting that nut off. Its on with about 60 ft.lbs. I used a electric impact driver to get it on/off.

First download the factory service manual. Stickied above this in the forum.
Second, change the oil, change the filter and see if it helps at all.
Third, check your cable play and adjustment, make sure the clutch is fully disengaging.
Fourth, if the clutch is toast multiple shops still sell clutches as well as e-bay. I got my last one for about $40 shipped.
Fifth if after a clutch change the problem is still there the shift star could be shot and need replacing. Factory Pro makes a nice shift detent and star kit that is awesome. It does not fix it if there is transmission damage inside. (Second sometimes goes out on the shifter) See corruptfiles signature above for the link to the shift kit.

I followed the steps and continues with the same problem. now it does not even shift. I might put something wrong at the moment of checking her insides. I will checking Factory Pro for that shift star. If you have any more ideas, please let me know. thanks

If it won't shift, then ya you did something wrong. I did a writeup on the FP shift kit, link is in my signature. It has pictures of my clutch reassembly.

hello, I have successfully change the shift star, I put everything back as it should but for some reason every time I shift it stays in neutral. It does not matter if is up or down, stays in neutral, any ideas how I can solve this issue?

Sometimes the bike will need to be moving for a proper shift. move the bike a foot or so and try again

Did you test the shifting before you re-assembled the clutch? It might not be put back together correctly...

Try to put it into gear while rolling it slowly as suggested with the engine off, and if it still does not go into gear I also think something is put back together wrong or there is internal trans damage.

It's hard to say what is the problem without seeing what is going on, so if it still doesn't shift take the cover & the clutch back off, and test the shifting while you can see what the shift star and lever are doing when you press up & down on the shifter. If you can't find anything wrong taking some pictures of everything behind the clutch basket after you take it apart might help too.
