That is true....
It's part of the speedo, so you'd have to disconnect the speedo.
Be proud of the mileage, shows you're doing something with the bike. Now I recommend buying a speedo healer so you're not adding mileage from where the speedo's are off from factory. The 5% positive reading adds up the mileage.

I laugh so hard when people spend good money on their motorcycle and let it sit like it is a Ferrari. I bought my bike to ride it. I put almost 4000 miles in the first month & half. If I was going to use it once in awhile and then sell it I would have just saved money and Rented!!
As for the Odometer just leave it !!!!!!!!! Don't be a idiot and prepare to screw someone later. Man up and ride or just sell it

Ok I'm gonna get murdered for this:
Remove seat, remove tank "shell", remove tank mounting bolts. Do what you have to do to pivot the tank back and then "block it" in place. On the top case there is a sensor with a 10 mil. bolt "bolted" into the case. Thats the speed sensor. It has a "pig-tail" connection about 6inches up the wire.
I can tell you that it will throw the FI light at WOT, loose you about 2-3mph in quater mile acceleration, and probably freak the ECM out.
To all the bashers that I'm gonna be getting, my bike is strickly track ridden and salvaged titled.
I do not encourge anyone to do anything illegal to a bike or car that is used for on-road purposes.
