Default Time for a new chain!

My 2004 CBR1KRR is ready for a new chain. From your experiences, what chain should I avoid and which chain would you put on your bike?

Thanks for the feedback!

From my research, you basically have one of two choices: DID or RK. I think the DID has a little more life to them, so that is the brand that I went with. You will be fine as long as you choose one of those two brands.

I have been using Driven now for a little while, from my experience they have held up better then the Vortex and RK. The chains dont seem to stretch as much, and so far (knock on wood) i have never busted a tooth on a Driven.

TK and Onarum, thanks for the feedback, I purchased a DID 530 chain yesterday and two new steel sprockets for $244 including installation. The shop manager suggested I stick with what came on the bike which of course is a DID chain. The last chain held up for roughly 10k, so I couldn't ask for much more right?

i would have switched to a high strength 520 to reduce rotating mass. just as strong, but lighter.

did you gear up at the saem time or stay stock?

Sorry for getting back to you so late, but I went one down on the front and stayed with stock rear gearing. For what its worth, the bike rides much better to me with this setup. The bike revs higher at highway speeds but makes a big difference in the mountains. I'm not tap dancing all over the gear box. Of course the top end is down but then again do I really need to be going that fast anyway on the street? Probably not!

yeah, 520 conversions make a big *** difference you can feel, even sticking with stock gearing..

And since you already bought chain, nevermind. lol. Was gonna say if you go RK, they are good, but only their high end ones.

Starleak, you're so right....the RK chains caught my eye but I saved a few bucks by going with the DID chain overRK's top of the line chain. I contacted sprocketcenter.com for the equipment. I paid around $200 for the equipment and another $40 or so for installation at a local shop here in Georgia.

Old azz thread but ... if a D.I.D ERV3 520 is strong enough for 200+ rwhp Superbikes ... it's strong enough for any street bike.
