Here's my opinion on this: I'm not going to second-guess the engineers who built the bike. I would think that they know what they're doing. Therefore, if the owner's manual says to run premium, then I'm going to run premium.

super burns more clean(thurough), and when i am dealing with an engine running at 10,000+ RPMs i like knowing i don't have as much of a gunk build up.
Honestly whats the big deal most places it is $0.20 more? your only putting 3.5 gallons? not like your filling a car 20+ gallons and only getting 15 MPG!

Now let's do the math? so it cost $.65 more every fill up. Say you ride your bike year round daily commute. on average you might fill up every other day? You are talking over the course ofa year $119. Take it a step further and you only ride seasonal?? you might be talking a whole...$50-$60 difference running your bike the way it should (safely) vs. running 87 octane to save a few pennies?? If you cant afford the extra $50-60maybe you shouldn't own a bike.

Kinda like people telling me they gota "sweetdeal" on a used helmet.
For christ sake you only have one head you might as well protect it the best as possible. Don't cheap out if your going to buy something for safety or intended design.

Certain things shouldn't have corners cut is all i'm saying

+1, the cost isn't that much more when you look at it. I was a little ticked switching from a 954 that could use 87 to an 06 1KRR that needs 91, but I've gotten such good gas mileage with the new one I'm not too upset anymore. Plus I get bonus airline miles when I buy premium, every little bit helps.

High compression engines like the 1000RR love premium gas.
It's like putting low grade fuel in an airplane gas tank. Sure you can do it, but the engine needs a lot of TLC during heavy checks to get all the "gunk" out of it.
Besides, your bike willget BETTER gas mileage with 91/premium.

Straight from the maual:

Your engine is designed to use any
premium gasoline that has a pump octane
number of 91 or higher. Gasoline pumps
at service stations normally display the
pump octane number.

Not to put the specified fuel in a high performance bike is not only stupid, but will also void your warranty.
