Rush Hour Traffic
Really love the 07 CBR 1000RR,
It handles predictably well, has lots of torque in any gear, at any RPM, even at 45 MPH in 6th gear.
First and second gear require attention, not to surprise me. Even 3rd gear at higher RPM, 7K to 10K,can lift the front wheel unexpectedly.
Riding this bike is addictive. It provides an adrenaline rush at a moment’s notice and wicked acceleration for fun or to avoid potentiallyhazardous situations as well.
Most of the riding is pure exhilaration but rush hour traffic has its distressing moments.
I was passing a stopped commuter bus in heavy traffic. I had the signal indicating a right lane change as I passed the bus. A fast moving Boxster raced passed the bus to my right, just as I was moving into the right lane. When I saw it just about to blend me into the pavement, I accelerated, Hmmmmm!!!! I mean leaped out of trouble. It was like everything stood still and I was the only thing moving. Felt great
Another situation involved a pick-up truck that was tail-gating, only a few feet behind me at 45MPH, for miles. We were on a two lane road, one lane in each direction. There was a car in front of me and no wear for me to go, or let the nut pass me. There was traffic on the other side of the road, so changing lanes against traffic was not an option. The truck would almost hit me as I attempted to slow down, as suggested in MTC. I made a decision, feeling extremely vulnerable, to simulate hard braking. Iaccelerated close as I could to the vehicle in front of me, down shifted to second gear while maintaining my speed, then jammed on the brakes while watching my rear view mirror and applied heavy throttle a split second after. The bike was able to power quickly out of the breaking. The truck however twisted out of control during heavy breaking and stalled sideways. I was confident the bike had the power to accelerate under those conditions, the way it did. Not suggesting this type of action though. It was one of those times when it felt like there was impending doom that required excessive action. When I stopped to make sure the guy was alright, he was stumbling, uncoordinated, inebriated, couldn't yell appropriate obscenities and couldn't restart his vehicle. This may have been a good thing. Still not sure.
It may be best for me to avoid rush-hour traffic.
Every mile I ride the CBR1000RR is exciting.
The bike has performed flawlessly since it was purchased in February.
