Reducing Weight...Ideas?
I got these ideas from another forum, but was wondering if you guys had additional ideas. I already searched, but had no luck. Thanks.
Take off rear seat add cowl
Take off rear pegs
Take off all reflectors
Take off signals
Tag eliminator (Jardine etc.)
Get rid of stock can, aftermarket
Change pegs to lighter ones
No mirrors
Change bar ends lighter
Add sliders that will increase but well worth it
Change Clutch and brake levers lighter
Cut away front sprocket cover
Get rid of chain guard
Tail light integrater, clean up wiring under seat
Get rid of tool kit
after market titanium exhaust.
lighter aftermarket wheels
520 conversion w/ lightweight sprockets
replace body parts with carbon fiber
galfer wave rotors
- Get a lighter set of tires
- Remove the entire PAIR assembly
- Put a small rubber hose for a rear brake resovoir.
- Wave rotor in the rear
- Ceramic rotors in the front, lighter then waves (I think)
- Titanium Spring for your shock (almost 1lbs savings)
- Aluminum (aftermarket) radiator
- Replace seat with thin foam
- Get a racing battery
- BMC Air filters are about 1lbs lighter then stock
- Remove stock exhaust heatshield
- Cut tabs off where heatshield mounts to subframe
- Heck, buy OPP subframe, whole thing is ~7lbs (track only)
- Ti rotor bolts, and every other bolt you can think of
- Aftermarket screens are usually lighter
- Take out headlights
- New Enduro gas tank (lighter & hold more gas)
- I think the HRC ECU is lighter then stock too...
lose your own body weight

After doing all that, the only place you're gonna be able to ride is on the track. On the street, a little bit of weight isn't going to make any difference except on your ego. I agree with menefreghista, by losing 10-15 lbs on the rider, you'll feel a lot more difference on the riding, and it doesn't cost a penny to make that mod.
On a serious note. i think getting rid of the whole Flapper system makes a lot of sense. You reduce a little bit of weight and gain couple more horses. I may do that removal myself if I get too bored one of these days.
I also thought about replacing the stock exhaust system with a full aftermarket system, but that's now debatable after reading about Sato slip-on exhaust at www.rogueracing.org . Apparently, doing a full system change over isn't worth it with Sato. In fact, the Sato slip-on performs better in the mid-range than the full system.

Doing all of that just to save a few pounds is kind of like replacing the leather boot around your car's shifter **** with mesh fabric for weight savings. I don't think any of it is really worth it. You can save yourself a few pounds just by taking a poo. It won't really make that much (if any) performance gain on the street, maybe a little on the track, but unless you're racing hardcore, there's really no point.

well the new r6's have no useless weight they took the peices that you dont really need like extra plastic nad scrap it and yes the r street legal and heavy enough to not be scary but that what street fighters r these days just what you need to keep it legal unless you badass and have cop friends that let it slide but i dunno street bike stock weigh what 300- 400 500 pounds roughly and they can beat almost any car out there but then again not everyone a super fast car so you dont need to lighten it to the extreme yes i think it would be a cool idea iff you have the money and know what your doing but i dont really think its worth unless you race like every weekend and who ever was talking about making a cool show bike sorry but i think that would be a huge waste of money probbly becuase i think matte black is kinda better than hot pink with a bunch heavy chrome sorry but thats the way i feel dont get mad or nothing cause i dont want people to hate me so im just saying what i feel

track only
go for it
dont forget to replace all the plastic with track plastic
that will save a lot of weight as well as get rid of the headlights etc
take off the horn
you will need signals on the street
you will need the horn on the street
you will need mirrors on the street
other than that looks like a good start but you are going to spend almost as much as the bike is worth in doing so to save maybe 20 lbs
id eat ramen for a few months
and spend the money i saved on a ohlins suspension
